This scenario-based eLearning experience is a concept project designed to guide learners through the steps of writing an effective book review.
Audience - Book Reviewers hired on a contract basis, writing for Reviewed by Me, a (fictitious) book reviewing company.
Responsibilities - Graphic design, Instructional design, eLearning Development
Tools Used - Adobe Captivate, MindMeister, Google Docs, Canva, ChatGPt (used to write fictional book reviews), Figma, Adobe Photoshop
THE PROBLEM
Reviewed by Me hires and pays book reviewers on a contract basis. While some of the submitted reviews include the necessary information, many do not. Reviews are being submitted that are leaving out crucial information that readers want to know when reading reviews. If all the necessary information is not included, Reviewed by Me will not accept the reviews and then will not pay for them as the contract was not upheld.
THE SOLUTION
Reviewed by Me does not like to deny submitted reviews. It is a waste of time for the reviewer and for them. In addition, most submitted reviews have a lot of the necessary information, but not all. With just a few small edits, many reviews could go from unusable to usable.
This inspired me to create a scenario-based eLearning experience that would allow users (book reviewers) to learn the necessary components of an effective book review. This experience will provide users with an opportunity to learn, to practice, and a checklist to take with them while writing book reviews in the future.
ACTION MAP
I acted as the SME since this is a concept project. I determined that an eLearning experience utilizing a combination of information, practice, and application would provide the best possible outcome for learners. In order to do this, I organized the eLearning experience using Merrill’s Principles of Instruction (MPI). MPI is centered on the idea that learning takes place when learners engage in problem-solving. As a result, in this eLearning experience, learners are presented with information and then have multiple opportunities to practice it before moving on.
